LABOR OF LOVE DOULA SERVICES
Noun: dou·la \ˈdü-lə\
a woman experienced in childbirth who provides advice, information, emotional support, and physical comfort to a mother before, during, and just after childbirth.
Origin of doula
1975-80; Mod Greek: “female servant”
A birth doula is a trained professional who is experienced in childbirth and provides advice, information and support before, during and just after childbirth. Much evidence suggests that having a doula present at your birth improves birth outcomes. Studies show that when a doula is present for a birth, women are less likely to need medical interventions including; the need for pitocin, cesarean sections, and the use of pain medication. Overall, women who have a doula are more likely to view their birthing experience as positive.
